Sons In Retirement (SIR) is a non-profit public benefit corporation for men. SIR assists men in renewing old friendships and making new friends through SIR activities. Having fun is our goal. We have more than 13,500 members in 117 Branches throughout northern California from Bakersfield to Reading.
Membership is open to men, regardless of age, race, color, or religion. Member volunteers and staff administer and govern all branch activities. Nominal membership dues help provide for these activities. SIR supports no outside cause or interest. We prohibit discussions of politics and religion or the selling of anything to any member. Prospective members must be sponsored by an active member.
Each Branch has monthly luncheon meetings where Sirs renew old friendships and establish new ones. Speakers are invited to speak on topical subjects of general interest. Branch 161 meets at noon, usually (but not always) on the second Tuesday of each month at the Discovery Bay Country Club. Check the ‘Calendar’ page to confirm the meeting date for a particular month.
The Discovery Bay Branch has active groups participating in various activities such as golf, bowling, cycling and wine tasting. We also have a monthly Dinner with the Ladies, where we meet at a local restaurant for dinner with our wives or lady friends. Twice a year we invite our wives or lady friends to our Tuesday luncheons, and special programs are provided.
Prospective members need to attend at least one luncheon meeting as a guest to be considered for membership. Ask a SIR friend to sponsor you. If you don’t know any local SIR members, contact one of the officers listed on this web site and they will be happy to sponsor you or provide a sponsor.
